To wear or not to wear (your wedding ring)

Ok, so I gained a bit of weight over the last year and most ashamedly my wedding ring wouldn’t fit any more. I went several months without wearing my ring at all. Fast forward now and I’ve lost weight and can wear my ring again.

Call me old fashioned, but I felt pretty guilty about going in public without my wedding ring. I almost felt like I was cheating on my wife a little. The funny thing is that no one ever asked me why I wasn’t wearing it. So I have to ask myself, has this become so commonplace for men to not wear a ring? Even my wife never gave me that much grief for not wearing it even though she kept on wearing hers.

What are you thoughts for what is acceptable or not? What are your habits? Do you wear your wedding ring while at home or working out? Please leave me your comments.

I feel very strongly about always wearing my wedding ring. It’s a symbol of my promise to my wife & the times I’ve had to take it off I really felt awkward & incomplete. Regarding your wife’s reaction, or lack of one, my guess is she knew you weren’t comfortable with your weight gain & she didn’t want to make an issue about it for your sake.

Thanks for your comment. I agree that my wife was trying to spare my feelings. I told her that in the future, she can scold me into action. Have a great day.

  2. I always wear my ring. I’ll take it off when I’m weight lifting—mostly so it doesn’t get scratched up or damaged—and during certain karate classes. Otherwise it’s on all the time and I feel weird without it. Having worn it for fifteen years now, it’s even left a small indentation in my finger; I take it off, you can still tell I’m hitched. Heh.

My father, on the other hand, has never worn his.

Thanks for he feedback. I’m with you. When I couldn’t wear my ring because of my weight, it felt really awkward. Have a great day!
